I think there are cars that can extend wings and fly a little, certainly as concept cars and prototypes.
While they seem very cool, I’m not sure I would enjoy it. I went gliding once and flying in a small craft is very intimidating, much nicer being the big, easy to see craft in the air!
I don’t see why not! Humans are endlessly creating new things and solving problems, I’m sure it’s possible, it’s just whether people decide to dedicate their time and money to do so (personally I hope somebody does!)
Some people have created flying cars, by adding wings and RAM jets (not generally a good idea)
I think we might have flying cars one day, but we’ll need a better fuel source than petrol to make them fly. Plus I don’t think we can trust most drivers on the road to drive in 2 dimensions, let alone 3!
Joe makes a great point regarding fuel, Planes don’t use petrol as its ratio of weight to power is pretty rubbish, so they use Kerosene, which is lighter than Petrol.
Interestingly, Petrol was a waste product of early oil production, as it wasn’t useful for what oil was used for (mainly oil burning lamps), for this reason it was very cheap and that was probably the reason Karl Benz used it in his new invention, the internal combustion engine!
